A Hoag conference centered around providing information to improve the quality of care of the Maternal Child Health population. The conference will explore topics in patient safety, obstetrical care and trends, postpartum care, and neonatal focused information.

1. Anticipate, recognize, and respond to potential maternal complications by applying evidence-based forecasting tools and patient safety strategies in obstetric care, thereby reducing preventable morbidity and mortality and improving outcomes for mothers and newborns.
2. Summarize current data on the prevalence and impact of opioid use disorder in pregnant patients and newborns within their clinical population.
3. Identify, support, and advocate for families affected by perinatal substance use through trauma-informed, family-centered care practices that promote maternal health, infant safety, and community resource engagement.
4. Explain the rationale, evidence, and communication strategies for Vitamin K administration, Group B Streptococcus (GBS) prophylaxis, and newborn glucose monitoring, enabling them to guide parents with clarity and compassion.
5. Recognize, manage, and prevent complications from hypertensive disorders of pregnancy through evidence-based, culturally responsive care that addresses disparities and promotes equitable maternal health outcomes.
6. Understand the patient experience by reflecting on the personal journey of a nurse-turned-patient, fostering empathy, communication, and patient-centered care practices that improve safety, trust, and overall care quality.
7. Analyze the evidence supporting continuous labor support as a low-risk, high-impact intervention for improving birth outcomes, including vaginal delivery rates, patient satisfaction, and reduced trauma.
