Overview
2023 Annual Education Update for Medical Staff

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of and compliance with current Hoag Hospital policy related to C. difficile infections, including efforts to reduce the incidence of C. difficile, antibiotic use, isolation practices and hand hygiene.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of and compliance with current Hoag Hospital policy related to central line associated bloodstream infections, including the indications for central line insertion and mandatory daily review of the need to continue central lines.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of and compliance with current Hoag Hospital policy related to catheter-associated urinary tract infections, including the indications for urinary catheter insertion and mandatory daily review of the need to continue the catheter.
  4. Demonstrate knowledge of signs/symptoms of Covid-19, personal protective equipment (PPE), resources, and exposure protocols.
  5. Demonstrate knowledge of EMTALA guidelines to ensure appropriate medical screening of patients and ensure patient safety by appropriate disposition of patients in accordance with EMTALA guidelines.
  6. Demonstrate knowledge of and compliance with current Hoag Hospital policy and State and Federal regulations related to patient privacy and confidentiality requirements, airborne infectious diseases, hand hygiene, influenza, safe injection practices, personal protective equipment, MRSA and restraints/seclusion.
  7. Demonstration knowledge of high risk procedures which may result in a fire in an oxygen-rich environment, identify the causes of fires, demonstrate knowledge of how to prevent and treat fire in an oxygen-rich environment, and discuss hospital policy for surgical preps and use of oxygen.
