Overview

Join your clinical colleagues in Newport Beach at the 2023 Hoag Brain and Spine Symposium. This 2-day, CME symposium will focus on the latest research and evidence-based practices in the care of neurological and spine patient. The multidisciplinary speakers will explore current and future innovations in neurosciences and spine care that will lead to optimal patient outcomes. This educational symposium is designed for physicians, nurses and allied health care professionals interested in advancing their knowledge of neurosciences and spine care. This annual educational symposium aims to enhance the knowledge of clinicians and will provide the latest in the comprehensive care treatment options by nationally leading specialists. Topics will include intra-arterial thrombectomy, epilepsy, movement disorders, dementia and cognitive disorders, traumatic brain injury, neuroimaging, low back pain, spinal stenosis and scoliosis, and their medication management, rehabilitation through physical, occupational, and vocational approaches, complementary and alternative medicine options, interventional treatments, and finally a range of minimally invasive to traditional surgical options.

PT: This program is pending approval for 7.75 contact hours on Friday and 5.5 contact hours (PDU) on Saturday.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Improve spine diagnostic skills and abilities
  2. Illustrate some unexpected and unusual radiologic findings and their clinical correlates
  3. Familiarize the audience about the burden of neurological complications of COVID-19, demonstrate current evidence of short- and long-term neurological complications of COVID-19 and review new research insights and future directions in management of neuro-COVID19
  4. Learn varying methods in working up the spine patient
  5. Identify methods for assessing outcomes from spine care
  6. Recognize successes and room for improvement in spine aftercare
  7. Identify additive spine aftercare adjunct therapies to improve outcomes
  8. Discuss new operative and nonoperative spine care options
  9. Describe and illustrate Hoag experiences with intra-arterial thrombectomy
  10. Introduce new technology for post-stroke recovery of limb function
  11. Review new guidelines for expanded use of intra-arterial thrombectomy
  12. Provide an overview of emerging tools and trends in the diagnosis and management of epilepsy
  13. Optimize the impact of DBS for Parkinson’s Disease with patient selection, advanced targeting and surgical techniques
  14. Illustrate emerging targets and treatments to change the course of multiple sclerosis
  15. Provide an overview of new kids on the block: CRGP antagonists for the prevention and treatment of migraine
  16. Describe new developments in therapeutics for Alzhemier’s and related dementias
  17. A practical approach to neuropsychological assessment of patient with memory and cognitive disorders
  18. Discuss evidence-based data to improve diagnostic management of brain tumor patients
  19. Outline the management strategies for patient with traumatic brain injury and concussion
  20. Improve recognition of sleep disorders and delivery of appropriate treatment options available for sleep disorder patients

Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian is accredited by California Medical Association (CMA) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
