Overview

The Hoag Digestive Health Institute offers care for a broad range of gastro-intestinal diseases that can affect people of all ages, but especially as we age.  This program is designed to provide an overview of some of the more common conditions, treatment options and the role that spirituality can play in promoting healing and wholeness in the health care setting.  Learn how to incorporate best practices into your own settings when working with patients diagnosed with treatable and sometimes life-threatening conditions.

At the conclusion of this course the participant will be able to:

Discuss the importance of promoting wholeness of mind, body, and spirit in coordinating care within the Digestive Health setting.

Define the mind, body, spirit connection within the field of Digestive Health and for patients living with Inflammatory Bowel Disease or other GI conditions.

Describe the practice of purification in a variety of spiritual beliefs and how it correlates to current healing practices following colorectal surgeries.

Give examples of the impact purification has in the colorectal perioperative setting and on patient outcomes.

Identify the impact of implicit bias on spirituality in the perioperative Digestive Health setting.
