Overview
The management of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is complex and often requires a multidisciplinary approach for patients with Crohn’s disease, Celiac disease, and Colitis. With new treatment options available including drug developments, diagnostic testing, new insights from clinical research and increasing concerns re value (benefit/cost) staying timely and communicating with colleagues is crucial for optimal patient care.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Identify the role for medical management in treating Irritable Bowel Disease.
  2. Describe how morbid obesity changes surgical decision making for IBD patients.
  3. Create a management strategy for patients with IBD.
  4. Discuss the use of various laboratory and radiologic imaging tests used to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of IBD.
  5. Be familiar with current treatment approaches, guidelines and advances in the treatment of IBD, including medical, surgical, immunotherapy, supportive care, and multidisciplinary approaches to management.
  6. Identify and address professional practice gaps relating to the cultural and/or linguistic competency on a case-by-case basis to provide the most appropriate an individualized care.

Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian is accredited by California Medical Association (CMA) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
