Overview

This program will cover key topics in breast and ovarian cancer care, including approaches to identifying high-risk patients, strategies for optimizing patients before surgery, and ways to support resilience throughout the cancer journey. The event will provide practical insights for healthcare professionals to enhance patient care and outcomes.


Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Identify patient characteristics associated with resilience, or lack of resilience.
  2. List three strategies for improving patient resilience when undergoing stressors such as chemotherapy or surgery.
  3. Recognize candidates for Breast Cancer Risk Assessment and refer accordingly.
  4. Interpret Breast Cancer Risk Assessment scores and tailor breast screening accordingly.
  5. Identify patients at highest risk for breast cancer and refer for specialty care.
  6. Describe the physiological benefits of strength and resistance training in surgical patients, with a focus on those undergoing risk-reducing breast and ovarian cancer procedures.
  7. Discuss evidence-based prehabilitation protocols that incorporate resistance training to optimize postoperative recovery and functional outcomes.
  8. Apply strategies for integrating preoperative strength training into clinical practice to improve patient resilience, reduce complications, and enhance quality of life after surgery.
