Overview
This case conference is designed to address the nuances of joint reconstruction and revision surgery through a case-based approach.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Assess the use of various laboratory and radiologic imaging tests used to assist in the diagnosis, management of knee and hip osteoarthritis as well as for the evaluation of failed joint replacement requiring revision surgery.
  2. Analyze current surgical treatment approaches, guidelines and advances in the treatment of surgical complications following joint replacements, including infections, aseptic loosening, instability and stiffness.
  3. Employ historical and current engineering principles for the design and function of joint replacement implants.
  4. Evaluate the appropriate use of fluoroscopic imaging techniques while minimizing radiation exposure and compare the risks and benefits of fluoroscopy with other imaging modalities such as CT, MRI, and X-ray.
