Hoag Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder Conference

Pickup Family Neurosciences Institute at Hoag invites you to attend an educational program addressing mental health as well as treatment and recovery strategies for substance use disorders. A team of experts will explore current practices, underlying causes, coping strategies, and the latest research pertaining to addiction.

Designed for: Physicians, Nurses, Addiction Medicine Specialists including Drug & Alcohol Counselors, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, and Marriage & Family Therapists

1. Steven Ey, MD, DFASAM– Recognize forms of stigma associated with the portrayal and treatment of opioid use disorders
2. Matthew J. Reed, MD– Describe the Cal Hospital Compare Opioid Honor Roll Program and its application in the treatment of Addiction Medicine and recognize forms of stigma associated with the portrayal and treatment of opioid use disorders
3. Valeri Trezise, LMFT– Recognize potential pathologic personality traits complicating addiction treatment and appropriately select communication styles most likely to facilitate ongoing substance use treatment
4. Sina Safahieh, MD– Address the topic of mental health providers and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic
5. Sina Safahieh, MD– Describe the mental health impact on children and adolescents due to COVID-19 and associated lockdowns/restrictions
6. Lesley A Tate-Gould, PsyD, SEP– Define the SIBAM model from Somatic Experiencing, a framework that includes orienting patients toward identifying their sensations, images, behaviors, embodied affect states and meanings
7. Earl Klebe, LCSW, CSAT– Identify the unique challenges in treating sexual addiction and identifying barriers to treatment
8. Lauren Bennett, PhD, ABPP-CN– Describe the unique mental health needs of older adults and the current research on best, evidence-based practices
9. Deidre Fitzpatrick, MSN, RN, CARN– Define the Behavioral Evaluation and Addiction Management (BEAM) team and why this response team was developed as well as identify how to bridge the gap between medical and behavioral care across the continuum of care
