Overview

Program Description

This program will focus on the latest research and evidence-based practices in the care of neurological patients. This program will focus on neurosciences for nursing professionals. The multidisciplinary speakers will explore current and future innovations in neurosciences that will lead to optimal patient outcomes. This educational symposium is designed for nurses, nurse practitioners and other health care professionals interested in advancing their knowledge of neurosciences.

Hoag Hospital is approved by the California Board of Registered Nurses, provider number 17163, for a total of 6.0 contact hours of continuing education credit for registered nurses.


Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Identify the indications and contraindications of pain assessment
  2. Describe the techniques for assessing pain
  3. Outline the appropriate evaluation of the clinical significance of pain assessment
  4. Review pharmacologic features of buprenorphine
  5. Differentiate among buprenorphine formulations
  6. Identify appropriate candidates for buprenorphine therapy in chronic pain
  7. Discuss how person-first language is less stigmatizing in the treatment of Substance-Use Disorders (SUD) and how implicit bias can be perceived through language used in describing patient care
  8. Define the concepts and principles of precision medicine
  9. Discuss the role of genetic profiling and the utility of biomarkers in precision medicine.
  10. Explore the clinical applications of precision medicine in treating neurological disorders, while analyzing the ethical and practical challenges in implementing it
  11. Define compassion fatigue and differentiate it from burnout
  12. Identify risk factors and recognize symptoms of compassion fatigue
  13. Identify self-care strategies to create compassion resilience
  14. Understand benefits of mindfulness and self-compassion as a protective factor against compassion fatigue
  15. Describe pathology of generalized Myasthenia Gravis vs. ocular, including past treatment options and new treatment options.
  16. Identify new treatment options: a. Complement inhibitor therapies b. MOA c. REMS program d. Meningococcal risk e. Safety f. FCRN inhibitors g. MOA h. Safety
  17. Differentiate between early responders, late responders and non-responders
  18. Discuss future prospective of treatment options.
  19. Understand the medications used to treat MCI and dementia
  20. Identify the impact of dementia on everyday function

Hoag nursing staff should use there Hoag credentials to sign in when registering. Hoag staff will be required to give a $75 credit card deposit to secure their registration. This deposit will be refunded back to the original credit card when attendance is verified on November 16.

This 2024 Neurosciences Symposium will be held at The Waterfront Hilton Beach Resort located in Huntington Beach. The oceanfront hotel is within a 15-minute walk of Pacific City and Huntington Beach Pier, offering many shopping and restaurant options. The Waterfront Hilton Beach Resort is conveniently located one hour from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and just minutes away from John Wayne Airport, Orange County (SNA). A room block has been secured for this meeting through Friday, October 25, 2024, after which the room block will be released. Room block rates for this event begin at $345.00 + resort fees and taxes, per evening. Overnight guest parking is available for $30 per vehicle and daily parking is $15 per vehicle.
